River Isla

The Isla commences high in the hills above Glen Isla when the Cannes Burn meets the many small unnamed burns from the Caen Lochan Glen. The river then runs south ease increasing in volume and speed from many small burns draining water off the hills. Passing close to Lintrathen Loch at the Reeked it meets the River Dean, passes close to Coupar Angus, is increased substantially the the waters of the River Ericht,  before eventually meeting the Tay at the Mains of Cargill.

The Isla varies in character from a small tumbling steam to a wide slow moving river in its lower reaches. There are some substantial trout in the river due to a combination of it's size, stocking, accidental release of Rainbow trout from hatcheries on the Ericht near Blairgowrie and its final destination - the Tay which has a good head of trout.

The Isla is controlled by the Strathmore Angling Improvement Association, tickets to the Isla can be obtained in the many tackles shops in Angus including W.R Hardy's Gun & Tackle shop.

Fishing  is by fly only from 15th March to 6th October.
